But one of the things about TV over the years is the characters develop their own dynamic and direction as truth is revealed, and it seemed to us – and can contradict me if they like – that love blossoms. When the show started, for me there was not a thought of that at all. TVLINE | Bruno, I understand that it was always the show’s intent to get to this place with Jane and Lisbon at the end of this season, even dating back to last summer?īRUNO HELLER | We were certainly thinking about it. Now he has chosen to play a game which will push his wits to the limit.Three may be a crowd on The Mentalist (Sunday, 10/9c), but four was company when the CBS series’ creator, Bruno Heller, along with leads Simon Baker and Robin Tunney, spoke with TVLine to survey the season-ending arc centered on Lisbon’s D.C. On the big day, those threats drop the subtleties and come full force, giving Jane no choice but to flee the ceremony just as it begins, to save the ones he cares about, at the price of possible damage beyond repair. That fear starts to reveal itself, and it involves something that goes beyond what Jane and the team has ever faced before, and will push the boundaries of how far they are willing to go for one another when a global threat reaches out to make a personal vendetta against Jane, and ultimately the team. The new team plus the former couple is going to be gearing up for the exciting event, though Cho is still baffled by the idea of their relationship. What does this mean? It means: after another year of working together, Jane and Lisbon are setting the date to get married. It needs all the things that make a great show: continuity of story line, not just a jumble of side stories, it needs suspense, it needs conflict, danger, and most of all, it demands sacrifice to show the true quality in Jane’s character. (Or at least that’s what I would do if I were Mr. Which would allow the Jisbon fans to imagine that the do end up getting married after the series ends and those who don’t like Jane and Lisbon together to imagine that something goes wrong and they don’t end up getting married or together any more. I think Jane and Lisbon getting married next season would be a bit much, though I could see the possiblity, depending on how much time passes in however many episodes there are and how their relationship goes, Jane proposing.
